Inheritance - Part 4
Inheritance Guidelines
The inheritance guidelines (principles) are established by God’s Law
A true inheritance is established by God.
Job 31:1-2
1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?
2 For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high? KJV
This inheritance was first established by the covenant between Abraham and God.
Psalm 105:9-11
9 Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac;
10 And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant:
11 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance: KJV
The establishment of the inheritance was by the Law of Moses
Deuteronomy 33:1-5 Moses commands the children of Israel a law concerning the inheritance of the congregation of Jacob
Inheritance is based on the premise of gifts and the inheritance should remain with children’s (particularly the son’s) lineage.
Ezekiel 46:16-18
16 Thus saith the Lord GOD; If the prince give a gift unto any of his sons, the inheritance thereof shall be his sons'; it shall be their possession by inheritance.
17 But if he give a gift of his inheritance to one of his servants, then it shall be his to the year of liberty; after it shall return to the prince: but his inheritance shall be his sons' for them.
18 Moreover the prince shall not take of the people's inheritance by oppression, to thrust them out of their possession; but he shall give his sons inheritance out of his own possession: that my people be not scattered every man from his possession. KJV
Landmarks (borders) of the inheritance were specified precisely by God
Ezekiel 47:13-14
13 Thus saith the Lord GOD; This shall be the border, whereby ye shall inherit the land according to the twelve tribes of Israel: Joseph shall have two portions.
14 And ye shall inherit it, one as well as another: concerning the which I lifted up mine hand to give it unto your fathers: and this land shall fall unto you for inheritance. KJV
There was no inheritance for the Levites in the land given to the 11 tribes of Israel
Numbers 26:58-65 Levite men were numbered for the inheritance of the Lord because they were not included in the inheritance of the Children of Israel. The men did the work of the God’s sanctuary therefore the inheritance was the provision for their service.
Instead the Levites were given cities and suburbs to dwell in as a part of the 11 tribes of Israel. This allowed the priest and Levites to be mingled among the Children of Israel as opposed to being in one spot. This arrangement fosters a closer relationship between priest, ministers and people because living in the same area as your minister and priest is God’s more perfect will. Remember, to closer the man of God, the closer your answer from God under the Old Covenant.
Numbers 35:1-4 Levites given cities and suburbs to dwell in by commandment from God out of the inheritance of the children of Israel, this also gave them a place to put their cattle and possessions.
Deuteronomy 12:12 The Levite has no inheritance with the Children of Israel
Deuteronomy 14:27-29 The Levite has no inheritance with the Children of Israel
The priesthood was inherited by the Levites from God.
Joshua 18:7
But the Levites have no part among you; for the priesthood of the LORD is their inheritance: and Gad, and Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh, have received their inheritance beyond Jordan on the east, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave them. KJV
The Lord gave His tithes and the offerings of the Children of Israel as an inheritance to His ministers (His servants).
Tithes are the inheritance for the Levites (the tribe dedicated to the service of the Lord House, the tabernacle). The Levites have no inheritance among the Children of Israel. Basically no physical land was given to the Levites because they were not expected to live off the land, like farming and/or herding livestock. They were allotted a place to live but their inheritance was the tithes of the people (the other eleven tribes).
Numbers 18:22-24 (For full reference read verses 21-31)
22 Neither must the children of Israel henceforth come nigh the tabernacle of the congregation, lest they bear sin, and die.
23 But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance.
24 But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.
Inheritance can be given to children even when they are foreigners in the land.
Ezekiel 47:21-23
21 So shall ye divide this land unto you according to the tribes of Israel.
22 And it shall come to pass, that ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you, and to the strangers that sojourn among you, which shall beget children among you: and they shall be unto you as born in the country among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.
23 And it shall come to pass, that in what tribe the stranger sojourneth, there shall ye give him his inheritance, saith the Lord GOD. KJV
In the New Covenant the Lord will not speak to your family member about giving you a fair share of the inheritance. This is partly because it should have been handled (set-up, established, a will) by the natural father and if it was not the Lord doesn’t desire to enter into this strife because it would overshadow the family pattern lived out by the father before his sons. Also each person should mature to the place where they believe for God to be their inheritance apart from the family assets or the assets of a certain person. In essence the only thing that can truly be considered yours are the things you receive from the hand of the Lord or those who wholeheartedly represent the heart of God upon the earth.
Luke 12:13-15
13 And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.
14 And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?
15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. KJV
